For the week spanning July 28 to August 3, Clayton Police Department was kept on their toes with an assortment of incidents, ranging from controlled substance arrests to traffic mishaps, according to a detailed weekly report released by the department on their official website. CPD officers were called into action over 578 times, attending to a variety of infractions including vehicle crashes, aiding other agencies, and executing arrest warrants.
One incident that stood out involved a man nabbed for drug possession behind Walgreens. Found with a plastic baggie suspected to contain narcotics, he now awaits the St. Louis County Prosecutor's Office's examination post-crime lab analysis, the Clayton Police Department reported. In a more personal theft, a resident's meds went missing, suspected to be the doing of a hospice nurse. The CPD hasn't closed the book on that one yet. And on Big Bend Blvd., a wanted woman was brought in on charges including burglary and endangering a child — a catch yielding from merely a traffic stop.
Hit-and-runs were a dark theme in several reports, with vehicles being struck and drivers speeding away with no exchange of information. A maroon sedan absconded post-collision on S. Hanley Rd., while a woman recounted the scary moment on I-170 when a pickup abruptly merged, colliding with her vehicle before racing off. In a similar vein, another driver was left dealing with the aftermath of a rear-end collision that prompted neither party to stop to exchange details — an investigation into these incidents is ongoing.
Drug-related offenses continued to be a pressing matter with multiple arrests made. A man stopped on S. Hanley Rd. had not only an outstanding warrant for assault but was also slapped with drug trafficking charges. He toted bags suspected to contain illegal substances, syringes, pipes, and a stack of cash. These items, now evidence, are off to the lab for analysis. And a woman's weekend drive was abruptly impeded when a rogue trailer latch shattered her windshield, injuring her hand," the Clayton Police Department report detailed.
The CPD also turned its attention to a harassment claim from an Uber driver who endured vulgar propositions and unwanted physical advances from a passenger. Despite the passenger's claims of being cleared by Uber, the CPD is now steering the investigation, with the man involved reportedly gearing up for legal representation in response. Lastly, in a curious find, a backpack equipped with two fishing poles was discovered abandoned on S. Hanley, now in CPD's possession and awaiting its rightful owner.
