As Cleveland braces itself for another hot weekend, the National Weather Service Cleveland has issued its area forecast discussion, expecting high pressure to dominate through the weekend before a slow-moving cold front comes into play next week. For residents looking to soak up the summer sunshine, this could be the ideal time. The forecast, courtesy of the National Weather Service Cleveland, points to dry conditions and a steady climb in temperatures.
"High pressure over the northeastern CONUS will continue to influence the region through the near term period, resulting in continued dry weather and warming temperatures," says the NWS Cleveland report. Although there’s a slight possibility for isolated showers or a thunderstorm through this evening, it appears that, the forecast favors a predominantly dry period. Temperatures are pegged to reach the mid to upper-80s on Saturday, with certain areas along the I-75 corridor possibly hitting the lower 90s.
Looking ahead to the short term, from Saturday night through Monday night, the Cleveland area is projected to experience a further influx of heat and humidity. "Heat indices could climb into the upper 90s across portions of NW OH during the afternoon on Sunday and Monday," predicts the NWS report. There's a level of uncertainty concerning the timing and location of potential pre-frontal convection, but the forecast has included a low probability of precipitation for Monday afternoon through the night.
For the long-term forecast, Tuesday through Thursday seem to usher in an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms as an upper trough and surface cold front moves closer. The NWS notes, "May need to keep an eye on heavy rain/flooding potential, but this risk will depend on the placement of the front." Despite the front potentially causing a dip in temperatures, they are expected to hover above normal unless rain and cloud cover intervene to bring things down a notch.
In terms of aviation, clear skies are largely on the radar, with an expectation of VFR conditions persisting through Monday. Early morning fog could cause some visibility issues, particularly in valleys. Meanwhile, recreational boaters on Lake Erie can expect "Good marine conditions" through the weekend, with light flow and lake breezes predicted by the NWS. However, be aware that showers and storms, associated with the approaching cold front, may increase by Tuesday.
With the weather shaping up as it is, Clevelanders can anticipate a hot and sunny weekend ahead. But with the impending cold front on the horizon, those outdoor plans might just need to include a backup option come next week.
