During a routine traffic violation stop on Interstate 40, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office's K9 Unit uncovered a sizable amount of methamphetamine. The stop, which took place on Monday evening, led to the arrest of 40-year-old Josue Caballero Macias, as reported by Coconino County.
It was around 9:44 PM when the deputy, having pulled over a vehicle near milepost 185 for a traffic violation, spotted packages suspected to contain methamphetamine. The search that ensued yielded 12.54 pounds of the drug, with an estimated street value of $10,000, as per Coconino County. Macias, the vehicle's driver, found himself under arrest following this discovery, having been booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility on charges related to the transportation of dangerous drugs for sale.
The ongoing investigation has led to a tight-lipped stance by the authorities, who have released no additional information since the incident. The initial report detailed that the drugs were found "in the vehicle," without specifying the exact location or nature of the traffic violation that precipitated the traffic stop.
