The tranquility of a Colerain Township community was shattered last Saturday night when, at around 8 p.m., gunfire erupted on the 2800 block of Geraldine Drive. A 42-year-old man, later identified as Matthew McDaniel, was shot multiple times. He succumbed to his injuries days later, according to the Hamilton County Coroner's office, as reported by WLWT.
Details from the evening are sparse, but local authorities have taken Perez Crossty, McDaniel's neighbor, into custody as a person of interest. Police arrived at the scene after a 911 call by Kristin Hill, who initially thought the noises were fireworks. "When we got up to check to see what happened, just in case, there was a guy laying out in the street. It became pretty obvious it was not fireworks," Hill told WLWT.
A LOCAL12 report mentions that no charges had been filed immediately following the shooting. However, a later statement by a Colerain Township spokesperson indicated that one person was in custody in connection with the crime, as an individual had been critically injured and taken to UC Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The incident seemed to result from escalating tensions between the two men, with neighbors recalling an exchange that could have been construed as taunting the night before the fatal incident. "It seems like a little neighborhood fight just blew up really, really fast," a resident reported to WLWT.
