As Collierville High School prepares for the new school year, parents and students are advised to expect potential traffic delays. The town's announcement noted that the ongoing Shelby Drive widening project will keep a section of the road closed until late 2025. The closure coincides with the school’s operating hours, 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., which overlap with peak commuting times.
In addition to the Shelby Drive project, traffic challenges are compounded by the closure of Sycamore Road between Highway 72 and Shelby Drive, expected to continue until August 11. This closure, managed by a private developer, adds further strain to the local transit system. Although these projects are not directly overseen by the Town, officials are coordinating with the developer, Collierville Schools, and the Collierville Police Department to help alleviate transportation issues.
With heavy traffic expected, particularly during morning rush hours, the Town is advising residents to allow extra travel time. The main message is to plan for potential delays and build additional time into commutes near Collierville High School at the start of the academic year.
