The quarterback carousel for the Indianapolis Colts continues to revolve as Daniel Jones is set to start against the Green Bay Packers, with Anthony Richardson Sr. expected to take over for significant playing time afterwards, as reported by FOX59. This decision comes after Richardson's limited action in the preseason opener due to a dislocated pinky finger, which cut his expected playing time short.
According to a new game plan revealed by Colts coach Shane Steichen and documented by IndyStar, Jones will take the reins at the beginning of the game with the intention being for Richardson to step in after a quarter and a half, this plan however is a direct reversal from the original strategy that was in place prior to Richardson's injury but with the roles of the quarterbacks now switched, Jones finds himself in the starting position once again.
The Colts' quarterback situation has had its fair share of twists and due to Richardson's recent injury, but the team seems adaptable, with both Jones and Richardson having productive halves during the 12th day of Colts Camp, as observed by Sports Illustrated; the report also notes that injuries were a persistent issue on the day.
With the season fast approaching, the Colts' coaching staff appears to be taking these preseason games as an opportunity to scrutinize their quarterback depth and the ability for their players to adapt to unforeseen circumstances, although the continual shift in quarterback playtime might raises questions about the team's long-term strategy for the position, it also allows Steichen to evaluate his options thoroughly.
