In a recent development linked to last year's missing person case, human remains were uncovered on Monday in a Security-Widefield residence. Contractors, who were inspecting the attic for mold at a home on the 4300 block of McGrew Circle, stumbled upon the grim find. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office was alerted and is actively investigating the matter, as detailed by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
The residence was previously tied to the disappearance of 41-year-old Rueben Matthews, who went missing in December 2024 after departing from his domicile. Despite spirited efforts, which included both ground and mounted unit searches, authorities, constantly thwarted by an elusive truth, struggled to locate him. Though the identity of the remains found has yet to be confirmed through forensic analysis, "based on physical characteristics and other evidence at the scene," officials believe them to be that of Mr. Matthews, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
A statement issued by the Sheriff's Office underscored the gravity of the situation, expressing "its deepest condolences to Mr. Matthews’ family and friends during this difficult time." The El Paso County Coroner's Office is expected to conduct further analysis to positively identify the remains and determine the cause and manner of death.
