As stipulated by Georgia law, a rollback millage rate is calculated annually to generate the equivalent revenue as the previous year's rate, adjusted for any changes in property assessments; however, Conyers' proposed budget surpasses this rate.
Before legitimizing their tentative fiscal plan and solidifying the new millage rate, the council is mandated to facilitate a trio of public hearings, designed as a platform for the citizens to voice their perspectives on the tax augmentation. All concerned citizens are urged to mark their calendars and take part in the discussions scheduled to unfold at Conyers City Hall, located at 901 O'Kelly Street in Conyers, Georgia. These hearings are slated for the following dates and times: next Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., August 20 at 10:00 a.m., and at a more accessible evening slot on the same day at 6:00 p.m..
Further, in an exercise of transparency and finalization of the process, the council will convene a called meeting immediately subsequent to the last hearing on August 20, poised at 6:30 p.m., expressly to establish the millage rate.
