Heads up, commuters and residents along South Willow Avenue—prepare for a shift in your commute today. The City of Cookeville has announced a lane closure scheduled for today, impacting the outermost southbound lane of South Willow Avenue from the early-bird hour of 6 a.m. to the evening rush at 6 p.m.
The roadwork, a necessary inconvenience for the smoother drives ahead, is part of the larger Stevens Street Improvement Project which aims to enhance the city's thoroughfares. During the closure, vehicles will be diverted into the inner southbound lane, from Short Street up to just beyond the Country Bumpkin. Rogers Group, Inc., the contractors brought in to lay down the new surface, will equip the zone with cones, signage, and flaggers—measures to ensure that safety prevails amidst the steering of cars through the construction bustle, as per the announcement published on Cookeville's official website.
However, not even the most meticulously planned work is immune to the caprice of weather. The city duly reminds us that should the skies darken and the elements decide to unleash their wrath, there could be an extension of the closure. This could, potentially, roll the inconvenience over to the next morning of August 15.
Questions and the need for clarity in the face of these disruptions can be directed to the City of Cookeville Public Works Department, reachable at 931-520-5249. The city extends its gratitude, recognizing the small sacrifices of patience and support made by its denizens, contributing to the end goal of a better, smoother Cookeville.
