The City of Brentwood has officially appointed Dale Biggerstaff as the new director of Public Works, starting his tenure on August 25. Biggerstaff, who touts nearly three decades of experience in managing public water utilities, is no stranger to the city's operations, having previously assumed the role of Public Works Department Operations Superintendent.
"Dale has over 29 years of experience leading and managing public water utilities, and he previously worked for the city as the Public Works Department Operations Superintendent," Brentwood City Manager Jason Gage conveyed in a recent announcement. He added that since rejoining the team as interim director in June, Biggerstaff has done a terrific job over the last couple of months, demonstrating caring and responsive leadership.
With roots in McLeansboro, Illinois, Biggerstaff has built a solid foundation in both the practical and academic realms of public service. An alumnus of ITT College in Evansville, Indiana, he earned an associate degree in Electronic Technology and furthered his studies in Business Management at Rend Lake College.
His career began at the Hamilton County Water District back in 1996, where his dedication spanned a quarter-century in roles including water operator and general manager. During his tenure, he managed a sweeping $20 million rural water distribution system and upheld the integrity of over 400 miles of water mains. Moreover, his work earned him the title of Water Operator of the Year by the Illinois Rural Water Association in 2012. He's also distinguished himself as a 2024 graduate of the Leadership Brentwood program, according to information provided by Brentwoodtn.gov.
Biggerstaff's public service record also includes a stint in local politics, where he not only managed resources but also engaged with the very fabric of his hometown through eight years as an elected township official in McLeansboro.
