Early on Friday, Detroit firefighters responded to several house fires, including a serious one on the east side. A vacant house on Helen Street caught fire around 5:30 a.m. and collapsed. The fire spread to a nearby occupied home, causing minor damage, according to CBS News Detroit.
All residents of the second home got out safely, and no injuries were reported, a Detroit Fire Department spokesman said. On the city’s west side, crews responded to a house fire on Santa Rosa. No injuries were reported in either fire, and both were under control later in the morning, as stated by Audacy.
The cause of the fires in Detroit is still under investigation, and it is unclear if the incidents on both sides of the city are related. On the east side, firefighters worked to contain the fire and protect nearby homes, though one house was completely destroyed, as per ClickOnDetroit. "Crews are still working to determine when and how these fire started," as mentioned by Audacy. The Detroit Fire Department has not released more information on the cause or any suspects.
