The Detroit community has been shaken by the unsettling discovery in Mt. Hazel Cemetery, where the body of a missing 15-year-old, Lawrence Dowl, was found yesterday. Local 4 reported that Dowl was last seen leaving his home on the 19900 block of Salem with a friend on Tuesday and did not come back, prompting a search that ended tragically inside the cemetery.
Authorities were alerted to the situation by a cemetery visitor, who saw the body and contacted police. According to The Detroit News, Police Capt. Marcus Thirkill of the 8th precinct stated that officers found the body wearing gloves and a ski mask, raising immediate concerns regarding the circumstances of Dowl's death, which is now under investigation as a homicide.
The exact cause of death has yet to be determined, as the Wayne County Medical Examiner is working closely with the Detroit Police to establish the details. The investigators are examining the scene, and while they did not release much information, they are treating the case as a homicide. This information was corroborated by sources to FOX 2 Detroit, who were told an investigation is underway following the discovery.
