Get ready to adjust your commute, Clayton residents and visitors. In anticipation of the Taste of St. Louis festival, slated to bring food enthusiasts to Downtown Clayton next weekend, the city has announced several road closures. According to a recent update from the City of Clayton's official website, parts of Meramec, Central, and Forsyth will be off-limits to vehicles to "ensure guest safety throughout the event."
These restrictions are set to begin early, kicking in at 6:00 am Thursday, August 14, and are scheduled to remain in place until noon on Monday, August 18. If you habitually drive down Meramec from Forsyth to Carondelet, along Central from Forsyth to Carondelet, or on Forsyth from Meramec to Central, prepare to reroute. The S Central Parking lot will also be closed to parkers. The city advises to reference a map they've provided to better plan your travels.
The Taste of St. Louis event itself is a culinary showcase, offering a weekend from Friday (8/15) through Sunday (8/17) filled with taste-testing opportunities from a variety of local eateries and food vendors. The street closures are a move to provide safe pathways for the anticipated high foot traffic, as food lovers descend to sample the city's flavors.
To those who often pass through the affected streets or plan to participate in the Taste of St. Louis, keep these disruptions in mind. The event is open to all and the city encourages residents and visitors alike "to join us in welcoming our guests and make a point to visit the event," as per the City of Clayton's announcement. With the closures set to lift by Monday afternoon, local traffic should soon return to its regular flow, but until then, let’s all navigate the culinary celebration with patience and an appetite for both food and festivity.
