A roadway collision involving a vehicle and a tanker truck carrying bleach led to an emergency response and hospitalization yesterday morning. According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO), deputies were called to the scene at the intersection of Buckeye and Wintersburg roads in the west Valley at about 4:30 a.m., as reported by AZFamily.
The MCSO stated, "A vehicle collided with a tanker truck that was transporting Sodium Hydrochloride (Bleach)," which led to the hospitalization of the driver who crashed into the truck. As a consequence of the incident, roads in the vicinity were closed to facilitate cleanup operations; however, there was no immediate information available on when they might be reopened, FOX 10 Phoenix reported.
The condition of the hospitalized driver has not been disclosed, and details regarding the cause of the crash remain under investigation. The MCSO has not commented on whether the driver of the truck was injured during the incident.
Areas surrounding the crash site were shut down to traffic, which possibly caused significant delays for morning commuters. The MCSO had not provided an estimation for when normal traffic flow would resume at the time of the reports. In light of the hazmat situation declared at the crash site, emergency services were likely to remain at the scene for an extended duration to ensure all hazardous materials were contained and safely removed.
