Early Tuesday morning, a suspicious vehicle led to a confrontation between a felon and El Paso County Sheriff's deputies. The incident occurred near a business on North Powers Boulevard, with deputies arriving around 2:00 AM after receiving a report of a vehicle, a stolen Ford F-250, parked outside the establishment.

Upon the deputies' arrival, the driver, later identified as Damian Garnett, 38, attempted to evade them by putting the truck in reverse, then striking a patrol car when deputies tried to block his path, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Despite Garnett's efforts to flee the scene both by truck and then on foot, deputies were able to apprehend him after a short chase.

"I am proud of our deputies for their quick response and decisive actions in bringing this dangerous situation to a safe conclusion," Sheriff Joe Roybal said. "Their commitment to protecting our community, including the businesses which serve our citizens, helps ensure El Paso County remains a place where people can live and work safely," as reported by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

Garnett, who had prior convictions, now faces multiple charges such as second-degree motor vehicle theft, attempted assault on a peace officer, vehicular eluding, and possession of drug paraphernalia, among others. Following his arrest, Garnett was taken to the El Paso County Jail, where he is being held, on a bond set at $3,000.
