Drivers on Missouri Route 19 can expect some delays starting next week, as a major resurfacing project gets underway in Gasconade County. According to MoDOT, the work is set to start next Wednesday and will cover a stretch of 17 miles all the way to the Crawford County line, kicking off at the junction with U.S. Route 50.

Those accustomed to the open expanse of Route 19 will need to brace for some single-lane traffic; the roadway is to remain open during the construction, which is scheduled Monday through Friday in the daylight hours, however, traffic reduction to one lane is expected, flaggers and a pilot car will guide motorists through the work zone, and this reduction in lanes is sure to temper the pace for daily commuters and long-haul drivers alike. MoDOT has set a projected wrap-up for the end of October, focusing the community's sights on a smoother transit experience come Halloween.

Travelers are advised by MoDOT to stay attentive and reduce speed when passing through the construction area. The project's greater goal encompasses not only the resurfacing of this key route but also improvements at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and Route CC in Linn, which includes a planned signalized intersection, besides resurfacing efforts on U.S. Route 50 from west of Linn to east of Rosebud.

MoDOT's focus on safety is clear as they remind motorists to remain vigilant "by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs," and giving construction workers a wide berth by slowing down and moving over in work zones, all supported moves designed to limit the interruptions that routine and emergency travel could face while these improvements are pressed forward. It is, however, subject to the whims of the weather, and any updates or schedule changes will likely be publicized as the project progresses.
