In a disturbing revelation from the small town of Rutland, MA, a case of elder abuse has come to light after the local police apprehended a woman for allegedly exploiting an elderly resident. According to a post by the Rutland MA Police Department, 38-year-old Maria Martin, previously from Fall River, faces charges including Larceny from a Building, Vandalizing Property, and Permitting Abuse on an Elder/Disabled Person.
The situation unfolded when the elderly victim returned home from an extended stay at a medical facility, only to discover the locks changed and the residence occupied by Martin and her boyfriend. Even more harrowing was the discovery that Martin may have been running an illicit erotic massage service from the space.
Local authorities have taken decisive action in the wake of these allegations. Martin was arrested and arraigned at East Brookfield District Court, where she is presently held on $5,000 bail within the confines of the Hampden County Sheriff's Office. "Last week, this department arrested 38-year-old Maria Martin ... charging her with Larceny from a Building, Vandalizing Property, and Permitting Abuse on an Elder/Disabled Person," detailed the Rutland Police's social media announcement.
They are joined by the Victim/Witness advocate from the court in their efforts to underpin the security and welfare of the abused elder. The Rutland MA Police Department has issued a reminder that the exploitation of the elderly should not remain unreported: "If you suspect that an elderly person is being taken advantage of, please reach out and report it!"
