Early morning chaos erupted in Falmouth at the Rose Morin Apartments when a man, wielding a baseball bat, spiraled into a violent rage. The Falmouth Police Department responded to storm of 911 calls around 5:12 AM, with reports of disturbane where a male suspect was seen trying to force his way into one of residences, armed and destructive.
The tension peaked as the first officer on the scene, a Falmouth Police Sergeant, found himself faced with the bat-wielding individual. According to an official social media post from the Falmouth Police Department, the armed suspect advanced towards the Sergeant, prompting a standoff which thankfully concluded with the suspect surrendering the weapon and being taken into custody.
Further investigation by the Falmouth PD unveiled a prior altercation where Barry Lopes, 44, allegedly forced entry into the apartment, caused destruction, and assaulted two individuals. Officials have highlighted that this violent outbreak was not a random incident; rather, Lopes knew his victims.
After the dust settled, Lopes faced multiple charges, including Home Invasion, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, among others. The Falmouth Police Department's booking led swiftly to Lopes being transported to the Falmouth District Court for arraignment. Assists by Falmouth Police Detectives and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigations helped shed light on the mornings ordeal.
