Tragedy struck in southwest Atlanta when a toddler and a woman were victims of a shooting incident stemming from a family argument. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that the violence occurred on the 1500 block of Olympian Way SW. A 16-month-old child was shot in the hand, and a 64-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to the shin.
The young child was promptly transported to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital, while the injured woman was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. Officers at the scene confirmed that both the toddler and the woman were "alert, conscious and breathing" following the incident.
Details surrounding the shooting are scant, as the investigation continues. The Atlanta Police Department has yet to release the names of those involved or what specifically sparked the argument leading to the shooting. The community is left piecing together fragments of a night that has once again shattered the semblance of safety in their neighborhood.
Meanwhile, an additional report by 11Alive disclosed that the shooting took place early Saturday morning. The responses to these violent acts by law enforcement were swift, as officers responded to a house in the 1600 block of Olympian Way SW shortly after midnight. Again, it was a scene where a child’s innocence and a woman’s peace were pierced by the brutal reality of gunfire.
