An 81-year-old woman, Eva Berger, tragically lost her life when she was run over by a city van earlier this year. As the sadness and disbelief continue to weigh heavily upon the family, they're now also contending with the frustration over the charges leveled against the driver. According to ABC15, the family considers the misdemeanor charge insufficient for the gravity of their loss.

Stephane Robillard, who was behind the wheel of the senior center van, is facing a misdemeanor charge that could result in her license being suspended and community service, among other penalties. Robillard, employed part-time by the City of Casa Grande since December 2024, had no incidents on record prior to this, as confirmed by city officials. In a statement obtained by FOX10 Phoenix, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office detailed that Robillard is accused of causing serious physical injury or death by a moving violation—a class one misdemeanor.

Speaking to ABC15, Shawn Berger, Eva's daughter, expressed the emotional toll this tragedy has taken on her. "It's been like very emotional. I have nightmares, I miss my mom so much,” she said. Gregory Berger Jr., Eva's grandson, echoed the sentiment, adding his belief that "the lady should be charged with a felony or manslaughter. I mean, she killed her." The family is seeking not only justice but also an apology from Robillard, which for them holds significant value in their quest for closure.

Cleaning up Eva's home, the family tries to find peace amidst the upheaval, while they also prepare to attend all of Robillard's future court dates. "She left my mom on the road like a dog. I just don't understand," Shawn told FOX10 Phoenix. Seeking answers, they want those in authority to recognize the depth of their loss and the need for accountable, commensurate justice. After the fatal accident, Casa Grande has suspended its senior center van service.
