
A head-on collision on State Route 4 in Discovery Bay has resulted in the death of one driver and left another with serious injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash occurred yesterday just east of Discovery Bay Boulevard and involved a Toyota Camry and a GMC Sierra. In a public announcement, the CHP's Contra Costa Area office provided details of the incident, which remains under investigation.
The CHP report, shared via their social media channels, stated that the accident happened around 10:19 AM, when the Camry veered to suddenly cross the double-yellow lines and collided head-on with the Sierra for reasons yet to be thoroughly understood. "An impaired driving investigation was also conducted, and DUI was ruled out as a factor in this crash," the CHP Contra Costa's post stated. The driver of the Camry was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the driver of the Sierra was airlifted to a hospital with significant injuries.
The identity of the deceased has not been made available pending notification of next of kin. The injured driver's condition is currently unknown. Authorities seek witnesses to shed further light on the tragic event that unfolded.
