
This morning, a tragic incident unfolded on the off-ramp of Interstate 680 in Pleasant Hill that left one man dead. According to a social media post by the CHP Contra Costa, the California Highway Patrol responded to a solo vehicle crash scene at around 8:14 AM, where a silver Lexus SUV had overturned after careening up an embankment.
The accident occurred just south of Monument Boulevard in the slow lane when the driver, for unknown reasons, veered to the right and crossed over the reverse gore point, driving onto the Monument Boulevard off-ramp where he lost control and the vehicle flipped, during the investigation, authorities found that the driver had not been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The crash resulted in the driver being ejected from the Lexus, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Due to the ongoing investigation, the I-680 northbound to Monument Boulevard off-ramp was temporarily closed for over two hours, reopening around 10:35 AM. The CHP Contra Costa Area office is actively seeking witnesses to the incident or to the events that led up to it.
