The City of Fayetteville is taking a significant step toward modernizing its operations with the launch of a new Communications Department. City officials say the newly formed department will enhance how the city connects with residents and stakeholders by delivering clearer, more engaging messages across multiple platforms.
In an update from the City of Fayetteville's official website, City Manager Ray Gibson stated, “This expansion marks a significant milestone in how we share our story.” With more advanced strategies, the city aims to build stronger connections with the community, highlight positive developments, and share information quickly, clearly, and in more engaging ways.
The launch of this department is a leap in delivering on Fayetteville's Strategic Plan, which champions transparency, civic involvement, and forward-thinking in public service. The communications juggernaut now encompasses branding, media relations, digital reach, and crisis comms, besides backing various other city departments in getting their messages out there in alignment with Fayetteville's mission and ethos.
GlenNeta Griffin is the vet steering this ship, a professional flush with over two and a half decades in comms and PR, and a fervor for storytelling that does justice to Fayetteville's essence. She pointed out, "Our story is one of progress, community, and opportunity," in a comment to the city's news release. The department is actively looking for new talent to round out their squadron of communicators, currently home to a Public Information Officer among others, and is intent on wrangling a Communications Specialist and a Multimedia Content Producer to the mix.
Immediate plans include launching the "Telling Our Story" video series, a project from the Department of Economic Development designed to amplify the local scene. Economic Development Director Lori Funderwhite elaborated on the significance of these videos, “By showcasing the real people, businesses, and moments that define our community, we connect residents and visitors to the values, achievements, and opportunities that make Fayetteville unique. When others see our story told with authenticity and enthusiasm, they don’t just hear about Fayetteville—they feel it—and that inspires long‑term engagement and growth,” as noted by the same news release.
Job openings with the City of Fayetteville are available for those interested in joining the team. The Communications Department will share updates through the city’s official channels.
