Urban development in Fayetteville is paving the way for a future that balances innovation with tradition. A new "Smart Growth" video, released by Fayetteville’s Department of Economic Development, casts a spotlight on the City's mission to nurture sustainable growth, cultural vibrancy, and an inclusive community spirit, as the latest initiative by the City of Fayetteville highlights.
Making its debut on City of Fayetteville's official website and social media channels, the video titled “Smart Growth: Building a Vibrant Future Together” draws a comprehensive picture of the City's thoughtful growth strategy with contributions from key city leaders, residents, and planning professionals who are articulating a vision of controlled, considerate development, which has been recognized as essential, not just for their community but for the small-town quintessence they hold dear.
Speaking to the heart of the City's strategic growth, Director of Economic Development Lori Funderwhile said, “Smart growth isn’t just about building more; it’s about building better,” according to the City of Fayetteville. The Director's words encapsulate a philosophy that emphasizes the creation of spaces ripe for economic success, familial prosperity, and generational legacy. The video charts out several initiatives under this growth model including the Alleyway project, a 38-acre development, and the Lee Street Arts District, aimed at fostering connection and placemaking in the bustling city.
Moreover, the emphasis on non-motorized transit and quality public spaces is illustrated through the City’s endeavor to integrate trails and pathways, promoting walkability and green living; this approach promises to thread the community together more tightly than ever. City Manager Ray Gibson champions this progressive yet measured approach saying, “We’re inviting our citizens and stakeholders to join us in shaping a future that reflects the best of Fayetteville: inclusive, strategic, and forward-looking,” according to the City of Fayetteville’s announcement.
This "Smart Growth" installment is part of a broader series, "Telling Our Story," which aims at amplifying civic engagement and informing the broader public of the city's economic development pursuits. Residents and interested individuals are encouraged to view the video and become active participants in Fayetteville’s evolving narrative, as it continues to welcome new businesses and families looking for a sustainable place to call home.
