An Atlanta Police Department officer was arrested on allegations of rape and false imprisonment following a complaint filed by a woman who accused him of sexual assault during a professional service encounter. Former Officer Muhammad Muhammad, identified by the victim, was apprehended at the department's headquarters yesterday, after a comprehensive probe by the Special Victims Unit bolstered by the department's Office of Professional Standards, as detailed by the Atlanta PD's website.
The incident leading to Muhammad's arrest transpired on June 6, according to the victim's report. She had agreed to meet with Muhammad at a location on Sparks Street in Southwest Atlanta to provide massage services. However, the session took an unlawful turn when Muhammad allegedly became aggressive and initiated non-consensual physical contact. Despite the victim's objection that her services were strictly non-sexual and her requests for him to cease, the encounter escalated into an alleged sexual assault, "including non-consensual penetration." Muhammad is then accused of threatening the victim with a firearm and taking back the payment rendered for the massage before fleeing the scene.
After the victim reported the incident on June 8 at the Public Safety Headquarters, an investigation was launched, leading to Muhammad's arrest. Atlanta PD wasted no time in responding to the findings of the investigation, with Chief Darin Schierbaum stating, "The Atlanta Police Department remains committed to serving its residents and holding its employees to the highest standards. We have been clear, no one is above the law, including members of our own Department." Following his arrest, Muhammad was transported to the Fulton County Jail, the conclusion of his administrative leave, and the termination of his employment, according to Atlanta PD's news release.
