Detectives were tipped off after the victim, residing in a basement apartment with her husband, discovered their wedding ring missing days later. It was a precious item made of diamond and gold, reportedly taken from the dresser's top drawer. Shafer, then led investigators right to his door—or rather, three miles from his residence to a pawn shop in Norcross, where he had allegedly pawned the ring set the very next day, on July 11.
