Residents of the Flipper Temple Apartments in northwest Atlanta are reeling after a shooting late Wednesday night sent four people to the hospital, marking the second such incident in the area in just one week. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the shots rang out around 11 p.m. at the complex located on the 2400 block of Abner Terrace NW.
Authorities arrived at the scene to find four adults with gunshot wounds; all were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. While the specifics of their conditions were not released, officials suggested the injuries were not life-threatening, and two victims have already been discharged.
Demeatrous Jackson, who was visiting his mother at the complex when the bullets flew, recounted the terrifying ordeal to FOX 5 Atlanta, saying, "Yeah, yeah I heard the shots and everything. Long story short. Shots rang out. I found a big hole in my car." Another resident, who chose to remain anonymous, detailed her fear to the news outlet: "They just started shooting. Don’t know where it was coming from or who they were trying to target. They just started shooting. I threw my husband to the ground. We just sat there holding each other until they stopped shooting."
The Atlanta Police Department has launched a manhunt for the suspect or suspects involved as the investigation continues. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage in hopes of piecing together the sequence of events leading up to the shooting. Atlanta News First reports that around 40 shell casings were discovered at the scene, indicating the sheer volume of gunfire that erupted.
While details about the victims have been withheld beyond their adult status, the community is urged to come forward with any information that may be pertinent to the case. The Atlanta Police Department is requesting anyone with insights to reach out as they work to apprehend those responsible for the crime, and restore some measure of peace to the shaken residents of Flipper Temple Apartments.
