A fourth suspect has been taken into custody after the brawl that erupted in downtown Cincinnati, which has since become a focal point of national concern, as reported by WLWT. Dominique Kittle, aged 37, is facing charges for felonious assault and aggravated riot in the melee that took place early on July 26 and quickly escalated from verbal exchanges to physical violence, spanning West Fourth and Elm streets.
In tandem with the arrest and ongoing investigation, a newly uncovered video provided by Jay Blax offers additional perspectives on the conflict and has been released into the public sphere, paired with, the first court appearance of one of the suspects documented by LOCAL12, the footage captures a heated dispute that spiraled into a full-fledged fracas, involving racial tensions, as evidenced when a Caucasian man in a white shirt slapped a Black man in a red shirt precipitating the violence that would spill into the city's streets.
Among those charged in the incident are Jermaine Matthews, Montianez Merriweather, and Dekyra Vernon, who, along with Kittle, were identified as part of the group allegedly involved in the conflict, with two more suspects remaining at large, as noted by the Cincinnati Police Department and echoed by FOX19. This "violent attack" involved around 100 people and affected six victims (five men and one woman), subjected to extreme physical violence, according to Police Chief Terri Theetge.
In the wake of the incident, Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval, together with community leaders such as Pastor Damon Lynch and Council Member Scotty Johnson, reflected on the racial elements of the altercation, elaborating on the gravity of the situation while addressing the public at a recent gathering, the confrontation having cast an unwelcome spotlight on the city in the absence of the mayor, who was vacationing at the time the video of the brawl went viral, FOX19 distributed this dialogue. More footage from different angles of the downtown melee has been promised by authorities, which is expected to further inform an already tense public narrative as details continue to unfold and be scrutinized.
