After a meticulous investigation by the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, Friendsville Elementary School Principal Stan Painter has been cleared of any misconduct. According to a joint statement from Sheriff James Berrong and District Attorney General Ryan Desmond released on social media, allegations that surfaced on Friday, August 15, have been found to be unsubstantiated. The statement details that a comprehensive review involved scrutinizing surveillance footage, conducting witness interviews, and examining material records.
Running with complete and diligent force, the investigation was presented to the Child Protective Investigation Team – a multi-disciplinary squad that includes law enforcement, prosecutors, DCS investigators, juvenile court personnel, medical experts, and professionals with the New Hope Children’s Advocacy Center. They stated, "The substantial weight of the evidence clearly indicates that Mr. Painter did not engage in any wrongful or immoral conduct."
Berrong and Desmond emphasized their responsibility to seek justice, equally defending the innocent as they would prosecute the guilty. "It is likewise their moral duty to defend those who are innocent," the joint statement read, affirming Painter's innocence in clear terms.
