The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is assisting with a homicide case following a deadly drive-by shooting in Thomson, according to official reports. On Sunday night, D’Corby Benning, 22, and Ja’Marcia Hampton, 25, were shot while standing outside a residence on Edgar Circle.

After Thomson Police received a 911 call close to 11 p.m., they arrived to find the two individuals wounded. Benning tragically succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Piedmont McDuffie Hospital, while Hampton is currently receiving medical care after being airlifted to an Augusta area hospital. The GBI has announced that Benning's body will undergo an autopsy at their Medical Examiner's Office in Decatur.
