In a recent incident in Henry County, Georgia, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting. The case involves a minor who sustained injuries after being shot by a police officer, officials confirmed. According to initial reports on the GBI’s official website, no officers were injured during the confrontation.
The incident, which occurred on the evening of August 29, prompted a response from the Henry County Police Department to what was described as a domestic situation. Officers were responding to a home on Crandon Court in McDonough, where a mother had reportedly locked herself in a room with her minor son trying to gain entry wielding a knife. Arriving at the scene, police encountered the son upstairs in a bedroom, still in possession of the knife.
In the course of the encounter, one of the responding officers discharged their firearm, hitting the minor. Following the shooting, the wounded youth was transported to an area hospital to receive medical treatment. Details on the current condition of the minor have not been publicly shared as of yet.
The GBI, taking the lead on the investigation per the Henry County Police Department's request, will thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Once the investigation reaches its conclusion, the findings will be handed over to the Henry County District Attorney's Office for further review, as the protocol dictates. Ensuring transparency and accountability, this process is standard practice in such police-involved incidents, though it provides small comfort to a community shaken by the violence inflicted on one of their own youth.
