Cambridge residents and visitors, mark your calendars and plan your routes. The first Saturday of August promises to bring a flurry of activities as well as some traffic detours. The BOUNCE! Cambridge Roller Skating Jam is set to take over Sidney Street, while Church Street will transform into an open-air cinema for the Annual Harvard Square Movie Night. With street closures in effect for both events, alternative travel plans might be in order.
The skating jam, which hits Sidney Street from Franklin Street to Pilgrim Street, will have that stretch closed from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on August 9. The City of Cambridge has advised to heed detour signs and perhaps opt for a different mode of transit if you're planning to be in the area.
At the same time, Harvard Square will be echoing with the sounds of an iconic film, as Church Street sees a closure between Mass Ave and Palmer Street. From 6 p.m. till the strike of midnight, the annual movie night will be in full swing. Residents and movie aficionados alike should prepare for a mild reshuffle of their usual evening commutes.
