The City of Glendale has appointed Purab Adabala, a seasoned municipal employee with 18 years under his belt, as the new Transportation Director, a move that sets the stage for the next wave of transportation projects in the community. Adabala, whose tenure with Glendale's transportation department began in 2007 as a transportation planner, has gradually risen through the ranks, having served as a Senior Transportation Analyst, the Transportation Planning Administrator, and most recently as Deputy Director of Transportation in 2022, as reported by the City of Glendale.
Adabala's advancement is not just a testament to his experience in the sector; it also aligns with the city's ethos of promoting from within, drawing on a deep knowledge of the local community that Adabala has cultivated over nearly two decades, during which he dealt with transportation planning, capital programming, and he was selected because of his "level of engineering expertise and community knowledge" that Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps believes makes him a perfect fit, according to a statement from the City of Glendale.
Now at the helm of the Transportation Department, Adabala will oversee critical aspects of Glendale's transportation infrastructure, including the Glendale Regional Airport, transit services, and the pavement management program. He steps in at a time when the city is set on refining its transportation network and achieving new benchmarks in connectivity and mobility for its residents, as per the City of Glendale.
"I'm excited to lead the Glendale Transportation team into a new chapter," Adabala shared his enthusiasm for the new role, emphasizing the team's commitment to enhancing the daily lives of the community and his personal dedication to nurturing a collaborative environment; his words reflect a clear focus on inclusive and effective leadership, as he declared, "The city has an excellent Transportation team that takes pride in improving lives of the people we serve every day," showing an appreciation for both the existing team and the importance of their mission in the City of Glendale.
Adabala is well-prepared academically for the challenges ahead, with a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Kansas and a bachelor's degree in architecture from Andhra University. With these credentials and his long-standing association with Glendale's transportation vision, the City of Glendale management expresses confidence in his ability to steer the department forward with innovation and a receptive approach to addressing the infrastructural needs of the city.
