According to the sheriff's department, Parks spent his final two decades at the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office, becoming a well-known figure within the community, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Parks had a myriad of roles throughout his career. He worked as a school resource officer and later returned to patrol duty. His reputation was built on a blend of humor and readiness to support others. The community knew him for his quick smile and jest, as per a statement by the sheriff’s office cited by 11Alive News. His tenure included recognition as Deputy of the Year and honor with the Medal of Valor for exemplifying bravery.
Sheriff Stacy Williams expressed deep admiration and respect for Parks, acknowledging his influence on the department, "Ricky’s presence was felt by everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him. His unwavering dedication to his duties, his willingness to lend a helping hand, and his positive spirit made him a cherished member of our law enforcement family," according to the statement made to FOX 5 Atlanta.
Although there was no immediate release detailing how Sgt. Parks died, the sheriff’s office is calling on the community to remember Parks' family in their thoughts, specifically his wife Karen; the office sentimentally concluded, “We have the watch from here, Sgt. Parks,” as they commemorate his legacy and vow to uphold the integrity with which he served, Sheriff Williams told 11Alive News.
