A Harris County church youth ministry volunteer has been taken into custody on charges of child pornography possession. The suspect, Kevin Hartgrove, 45, faces serious allegations after detectives purportedly found "hundreds" of images on his computer, as reported by CW39.
The arrest, which took place yesterday at Hartgrove's residence, was led by detectives from the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit. As they continued to thoroughly examine the seized equipment, detectives indicated they had discovered video,s including one distressingly labeled “Jailbait July,” which is said to feature girls roughly 11 to 13 years old. To underscore the gravity of these accusations, Hartgrove is staring down a potential sentence of up to 99 years in prison if convicted on both counts.
According to FOX26 Houston, Hartgrove, who works in the IT sector, currently resides in the Harris County Jail with a combined bond set at $40,000. The Harris County officials have not released specifics on the church where Hartgrove volunteered.
In a stern warning that reverberated across the community, Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen stated, "Let this be a warning to anyone who sexually exploits children: our deputies are patrolling cyberspace, and they will catch you," as noted by FOX26 Houston. This message comes amidst an exponential increase in vigilance to combat online exploitation. Officials underscore that, presently, there seems to be no evidence suggesting Hartgrove's alleged crimes directly included children he may have worked with at church.
Detectives are actively seeking additional information and urge anyone with insights into Hartgrove's conduct, especially concerning any inappropriate contact with minors, to immediately reach out to the Harris County Constable Precinct One Internet Crimes Against Children Unit at 713-222-4929.
