For those who prefer a physical map or want a backup for digital navigation, Missouri’s new travel resource is here. The 2025-2026 Official State Highway Map is now available for free. Visitors can pick up a copy starting today at the Highway Gardens Expo Center during the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia, which runs through August 17.
MoDOT Director Ed Hassinger emphasizes the utility of the physical map, asserting "Having access to one of these printed maps means you’re prepared," according to an announcement on MoDOT's website. Hassinger hails the map as not only a failsafe against the whims of cellular reception or GPS failure but also as a potential catalyst for wanderlust, highlighting the state's vast offerings. For those unable to attend the fair, the map is available for request via local MoDOT district offices or by calling 1-888-ASK-MoDOT (275-6636), and an online version can be downloaded from MoDOT's official site.
The map itself is both a guide and a celebration of Missouri, featuring an aerial photo of Missouri Route 79 near the DuPont Reservation Conservation Area that extols the scenic beauty of the region. Inside, the map includes a welcome letter from Governor Mike Kehoe, who beckons travelers to immerse themselves in the Show-Me State's diverse attractions.
With more than 4,000 highway shields and over 2,000 towns plotted, the map presents a detailed grid of state highways stretching 33,814 miles, along with 5,300 miles of railroad tracks and 1,385 miles of Interstate highways. It acknowledges the flux of time and demographics, incorporating 2020 U.S. Census Bureau numbers for Missouri’s cities and counties. Back-of-the-map insets enhance the function of the map, revealing greater detail in metropolitan areas and marking historical trails, routes, rest areas, U.S. bike routes, plus the locations of post offices, state parks, and historic sites.
