In Hobart, Indiana, a residential fire resulted in the injury of a firefighter on Saturday night. The Hobart Fire Department reported to NBC Chicago that the blaze was consuming a home situated in the 300 block of Cavender Street when they arrived. Despite being told the house was fully engulfed, the firefighters managed to extinguish the fire promptly.
Everyone in the home, along with the occupants' dog, escaped without injury. The same couldn't be said for the structure itself, which officials declared a total loss. In a fight against the blaze, one firefighter sustained minor injuries during the quick response, the department said, and recovery is anticipated to be full. There seems to be something ineffably heavy about these moments, when safety is a hairsbreadth away for some and yet so close to tragedy.
A statement released by the fire department expressed their concern for those affected: "Our thoughts are with the homeowner and residents during this difficult time as they deal with the aftermath of this loss. We are grateful no lives were lost and that everyone made it out safely," as obtained by Fox 32 Chicago.
The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined as investigators continue.
