In a coordinated bust between local and federal agencies, the Holyoke Police Department, alongside agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), made a significant drug seizure last Friday. Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan revealed that the effort culminated in the confiscation of a considerable quantity of heroin/fentanyl and cocaine, as well as a cash stash exceeding $6,900.

The operation took place at the break of dawn, around 6:00 a.m., where detectives and members of a task force proceeded to carefully execute a search warrant at an apartment located at 694 Dwight Street. This action was the result of an extensive joint investigation effort by the Holyoke Police and the DEA. Inside the apartment, officials discovered about 125 grams of heroin/fentanyl, roughly translating to 5,000 bags of the substance, and 101 grams of cocaine. Additionally, a sum of $6,925 in cash was taken into possession by the authorities.

The raid led to the arrest of 33-year-old Adiel Velez, a resident of Holyoke. The charges against Velez are severe, reflecting the magnitude of the narcotics found. According to a social media post from the Holyoke Police Department, Velez is being charged with trafficking heroin/fentanyl in the range of 100-200 grams and for cocaine trafficking in the same weight class.
