The series of events began late on Sunday, when officers from the City of Jennings Precinct answered to a ShotSpotter alert at precisely 11:34 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered shell casings scattered around the vicinity. It was shortly after midnight, on Monday, that hospital staff informed these officers of a male gunshot victim presenting to the emergency department, who was pronounced dead.
The identity of the victim has not been disclosed pending the notification of next of kin.
