An investigation is underway following the death of an individual in custody at the Multnomah County Inverness Jail. It was just before 5:30 p.m. last Saturday when deputies found the person, who was unresponsive. Immediate efforts were made to save their life, but sadly, the person was pronounced dead at the scene, as was confirmed by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
According to a statement from the sheriff's office, Deputies and Corrections Health personnel worked diligently to attempt to administer lifesaving measures, and paramedics continued these efforts. However, despite their attempts, they could not revive the person. The East County Major Crimes Team was activated following the incident, as per standard protocol, to initiate a thorough death investigation.
The ongoing investigation into the in-custody death is a collaboration between multiple local agencies. "The death investigation is being completed with the support of the Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office," the statement from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office added. They have taken charge of determining the exact cause and manner of death.
The identity of the deceased, along with their age, will be disclosed once next of kin notifications have been properly completed. The public will be able to receive details regarding the cause and manner of death once the Medical Examiner has concluded their investigation. The sheriff's office has declined to provide additional comments until more information surfaces.
