Tragedy struck in Jefferson Davis Parish when a 46-year-old man died in a motorcycle crash earlier this week. The victim, identified as Chad McClelland of Iota, was riding northbound on Louisiana Highway 26 when his motorcycle veered across the center line and exited the roadway, as per the Louisiana State Police Troop D report. The incident occurred last Sunday, August 3, shortly after 7:00 a.m., and despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet, McClelland succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the crash. Carrying a 2023 Harley-Davidson, McClelland was negotiating a curve on the highway when the bike tragically met its end in a ditch, according to Louisiana State Police. Officers have collected a standard toxicology sample for analysis, though results are still pending as the investigation unfolds.
The accident serves as a sobering reminder to all who navigate the roads to adhere to traffic laws and operate their vehicles responsibly. Safety measures such as wearing helmets, avoiding distractions, and staying alert can often be the fragile barrier between a routine journey and a fatal outcome.
