
Mayor Freddie O'Connell, alongside the Metropolitan Action Commission (MAC) Board of Commissioners, has announced the appointment of Jamekia Bies as the new Executive Director of Metro Action in Nashville. Bies, with a robust 20 years of experience dedicated to supporting families, children, and adults, will take on her new role later this year.
Bies' roots her experience in her beginnings as a practitioner in Western Alabama, where she was involved in programs like Head Start and energy assistance. In her career trajectory, she progressed from being hands-on to taking on senior leadership and eventually executive positions. "She is a thoughtful leader who brings a wealth of experiences across the non-profit, human services, and education sectors," Mayor O'Connell told Nashville government. "I am excited to have her as the Executive Director of one of our most critical service departments."
The MAC Board is confident in Bies' leadership abilities, especially highlighting her strategic alignment capabilities, which are pivotal for strengthening the MAC's initiatives. Erika Burnett, the Chairperson of the MAC Board, shared her enthusiasm, noting Bies' impressive history of forging local connections. "Our Board is confident in Ms. Bies' ability to amplify the amazing work already occurring, while strategically positioning the agency for the next phase of impact," Burnett said, according to the Nashville government.
As the incoming Executive Director, Bies is expected to leverage her extensive history within community-based organizations to advance MAC's objectives. This includes managing programs such as Head Start and Early Head Start, expanding federal funding opportunities, and crafting comprehensive community engagement strategies. Bies will be at the helm of Metro Action beginning September 29, continuing the organization's legacy of community service and development.
