Residents dedicated to preserving the cleanliness of beaches and coastal areas are invited to take part in efforts that directly contribute to protecting these natural spaces. The 2025 International Coastal Cleanup, organized locally by VolunteerCleanup.org, will hit the shores of Miami-Dade County on Sept. 20. This massive cleanup initiative is part of a global effort spearheaded by the Ocean Conservancy, and the county will feature over 70 cleanup events across its parks, beaches, and natural preserves, according to Miami-Dade County's news release.
Miami-Dade County calls these participants VIPs—Volunteers in Parks—highlighting their role in keeping public spaces clean. Opportunities are available at several sites, including Black Point Marina, Crandon Park, and the Deering Estate. Residents are encouraged to register now for their preferred location. Cleanup events span marinas, parks, and preserves, offering options for a variety of interests and abilities. Volunteers can join a land cleanup at East Greynolds Park or a paddle cleanup at Crandon Park Marina on Sept. 27. Even Virginia Key Dog Beach Park is included, ensuring cleaner spaces for both residents and their pets.
By joining this effort, volunteers contribute not just to the local community but also to a larger global movement. The goal is simple: reduce marine debris and manage litter in public spaces. Even without direct participation in the cleanups, it is possible to learn more about Miami-Dade Parks’ efforts against marine pollution through their available resources.
