
The Kirkland Fire in Yavapai County is 60% contained and has burned 913 acres. Officials said there is no immediate threat to nearby communities or structures. The fire is located about 2.5 miles northeast of Hillside in a sparsely populated area, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.
Fire officials report that more than 100 personnel are working to contain the blaze. The response includes a hotshot crew, two state hand crews, several fire engines, water tenders, and a dozer. Crews are focusing on the west and northwest flanks near Kingsbury Mountain and Sadies Peak, where hot and dry conditions are making efforts more difficult, as mentioned by the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.
State Fire officials reported that "The decrease in acreage is due to more accurate mapping." The fire, which is creeping and smoldering, is being contained with direct efforts focused near Bagdad / County Road 15. Traffic in the area remains open, but officials warn of hazards from fire crews and equipment. Teams are using cold trailing to check for and put out hot spots while continuing patrols to watch for new fire activity, as stated by the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.
