The streets of La Vergne echoed with the rhythmic pounding of runners' feet last Friday evening during the annual Howl at the Moon 5K. In an event described by Kathi Melendy, the event coordinator with the Parks & Recreation Department, as a celebration of "Community," the 5K drew a crowd of over 200 participants, as reported by the City of La Vergne.

Michele Guerrier, running her third 5K in honor of her late mother, completed the course with a pace of 14:11 per mile, finishing in just over 44 minutes, according to the City of La Vergne’s official website. In contrast, Pascal Francisco surged to a first-place finish, maintaining a swift 6-minute mile and crossing the line in 18:40. The event took runners on a scenic route that started and finished at the Veterans Memorial Park, leading them through Floyd Mayfield Drive and Murfreesboro Road, and circling back after a stretch at Bicentennial Park. To ensure the safety of all those participating, measures were taken to close off a portion of Murfreesboro Road’s westbound lanes before the race's 8 p.m. start time.

Looking forward, residents can mark their calendars for the upcoming La Vergne Fall Festival. This next community gathering is set for Saturday, Sept. 20, at Veterans Memorial Park. Festivities will commence with a vibrant parade from City Hall. For those interested in more details about the Fall Festival or other future events, following the City of La Vergne Parks & Recreation social media accounts or visiting the Our Community page on the La Vergne website is encouraged.
