Lake Havasu City is taking steps to foster community involvement by introducing the Havasu Residents Academy (H.R.A.), a program designed to give locals an inside look into the municipal workings. The eight-week experience, slated to run from September 25 through November 13, 2025, invites residents and business owners of Lake Havasu City to connect with city leaders and understand the inner mechanics of local government, as reported by the city's official announcement.

Thursdays could become more enlightening for those joining this free program. Held from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. each week, the H.R.A. aims to provide a transparent view of the city’s operation and encourages participants to delve into the intricacies of daily municipal functions. The initiative springs from the city's long-standing commitment to transparency, detailed in a recent Citizen Survey, and focuses on enhancing community engagement in shaping the future of Lake Havasu City, as revealed in a press release.

The Havasu Residents Academy offers residents the opportunity to step inside their local government and truly understand how the City operates, commented Community Engagement Officer Jerri Bracamonte. Emphasizing the educative aspect of the program, Bracamonte noted, Participants see firsthand how decisions are made, how services are delivered, and how their voices matter in shaping the future of Lake Havasu City.

The weekly sessions are designed to be highly interactive, featuring presentations, tours, and sit-downs with key city personnel. The curriculum is expected to cover essential services, fiscal responsibility, and the synergy between various departments, including the City Attorney, City Clerk, Human Resources, Court, Police, Fire, Public Works, and Parks & Recreation. Graduates are anticipated to emerge well-informed, well-connected, and with a sense of empowerment to partake more actively in their local polity, based on the program's outline provided by Lake Havasu City's website.

Interested local adults aged 18 and over have until August 29, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., to apply for a spot in the H.R.A. While space is limited to only 20 people, the city ensures that dinner will be available for participants during the sessions. Those wishing to apply, or seeking additional information, can do so through the city's website, with acceptances to be announced in early September.
