During a focused one-hour enforcement blitz last Thursday, the Las Cruces Police Department's Traffic Unit issued a staggering 46 traffic citations at the bustling intersection of Lohman Avenue and Telshor Boulevard, as reported by the City of Las Cruces. Highlighting the operation's results, the majority of the offenses, totaling 28, were handed to drivers failing to vacate the intersection on a green light, causing hindrances for cross-traffic with the right of way.
In addition to the predominant violation, officers distributed citations encompassing various infractions such as seven for driving without insurance, five for failing to show proof of insurance, two for failing to yield right of way, and an assortment of four other miscellaneous traffic violations. As the City of Las Cruces firmly states, “No driver shall enter an intersection or a marked crosswalk unless there is sufficient space on the other side of the intersection or crosswalk to accommodate the vehicle he is operating without obstructing the passage of other vehicles or pedestrians.”
This intersection is known to be the busiest in Las Cruces and often encounters issues with drivers blocking the flow of traffic, a scenario unfortunately too common within city limits. The Traffic Unit’s proactive operation, initiated at 12:15 p.m., targeted this vexing issue head-on, endeavoring to instill a sense of orderly conduct among motorists and to underscore the importance of keeping intersections clear.
