Get ready to mix fun with education at the Community Safety Day this Saturday. Scheduled for tomorrow from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the event offers an up-close look at the work of first responders. Hosted at 9530 East 59th Street, the City of Lawrence has put together a free family-friendly day, complete with demonstrations of emergency service prowess and safety education.
The activities planned promise to both engage and inform attendees. Families can watch a PHI Helicopter touch down at 10:00 AM or see K9 units go through their paces at 11:15 AM. Meanwhile, kids and adults alike can fully expect to be dazzled by a SWAT Tower demo followed by a Taser demonstration. A ladder rescue demonstration will showcase the dangers firefighters face and the techniques they use to save lives. To wrap up the day, a relay race between fire and police personnel will undoubtedly stir up some friendly competition before Mayor Deb Whitfield delivers closing remarks.
According to the City of Lawrence official announcement, there's more than just demonstrations on offer. Participants will have the chance to meet and interact with local enforcement and emergency staff, getting to know the faces behind the uniforms.
Community Safety Day will feature safety education programs and recognition of first responders, alongside family-friendly activities. Food trucks and refreshments will be available for purchase. The all-ages event is free to attend and aims to combine public safety awareness with community engagement.
