If you're planning to run some errands in Lawton come the beginning of September, you might want to mark your calendar and plan ahead. According to a release from the City of Lawton, municipal offices and sites will be taking a break to observe Labor Day on Monday, September 1, ensuring workers have a moment to rest on a day that celebrates their contributions.
Heads up, library visitors: all libraries, including Lawton and the Branch Library, will be closed for the holiday. Trash collection will also be delayed—no pickup on Monday. Area 1 will have trash collected on Tuesday, Area 2 on Wednesday, and Areas 3 and 4 will stay on their regular Thursday and Friday schedule, as reported by the City of Lawton.
Those looking to discard larger items won't be left in a lurch, as bulk collection for Area 1 kicks off bright and early at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, following the Labor Day break, according to the City of Lawton's announcement. The Lawton Landfill, not to be left out, will also take a day off on Monday, with operations bouncing back to life from 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
Yet, if it's a dash of leisure you're after, the Lawton Aquatics Center isn't locking up – it’s actually staying open from noon to 8 p.m. on Labor Day itself. Although, regular hours will return following the holiday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m on Tuesday, so be sure to get a good splash while you can especially since the Elmer Thomas Park Splashpad, while open on Monday, will wrap up its season right after on September 2, as noted by the City of Lawton.
