A tragic turn of events unfolded this past Tuesday when a woman from Leesville met with a fatal accident in Vernon Parish. According to a report from Louisiana State Police Troop E, 54-year-old Regena Moore was killed after her vehicle struck a tree on Eissman Road.
The incident occurred at around 1:00 p.m., when Moore's 2011 GMC Acadia veered off the road under circumstances that are still being investigated. Despite being restrained, Moore sustained severe injuries. After being transported to a local hospital, restrained in the seat shortly before the accident, she was pronounced dead, the passenger accompanying her suffered only minor injuries.
While the reasons behind Moore's loss of vehicle control remain a mystery, officials are waiting on results from routine toxicology tests. The crash highlights a persistent issue in the state—distracted and inattentive driving, which is a leading cause of accidents.
In the wake of the tragedy, the state police have doubled down on their message to drivers to maintain vigilance. "A lapse in one’s awareness can have deadly consequences," stated an officer in their communication to the public, as per the Louisiana State Police.
